This is a feel good flow centered around pleasure!!! You will hit all the tight spots (hips, hamstrings, shoulders), all in the name of feeling good. So many of us are caught up in our day to day to-do's that we aren't making time for pleasure, if we are even aware of what gives us pleasure.

My guess is, anyone who practices yoga gets some sort of pleasure from it, so allow that to be your intention for this flow.

The class begins in child's pose to get you grounded, moves through a few rounds of sun salutations and then primes your body for our flow.
The main flow includes some fun transitions from eagle arms to warrior three arms to extended side angle along with reverse warrior, triangle and reverse triangle to open the hips and side bodies. As we move deeper in the sequence, I add on balance and deeper hip opening with runners lunge and prone frog. The peak pose is eagle, followed by more hip opening in warrior one and humble warrior. Class ends with a final hip opener and twist, leaving you feeling open , grounded and focusing on what feels good in your life.

Yoga for Athletes: IT Band & Hips

This class is focused on the IT band, the ligament that runs down the outside of the thigh from the hip to the shin. IT Band Syndrome is one of the most common overuse injuries in endurance athletes like runners and cyclists. If you have been experiencing pain in that area, this class is a MUST DO!

In order to really dive into the IT band, we must also get into the hips and the hamstrings so you can expect to stretch those areas as well.

We begin this class in a supine position, prepping the hips, hamstrings and IT band for deeper stretches, and each series of poses moves a little deeper into the body. You will also flow a bit in this class to help build heat in the body and suppleness in the joint.

I hope that you also take away a few new stretches that you can incorporate into your post-run or ride stretching routine.

While developing this class, I researched what other people had said about freedom. As many people described freedom in various ways, the main take away was freedom is letting go. I had not thought of freedom in this way before. I was so excited because I believe the main point of our yoga practice is to be able to let go. Let go of attachments, expectations and anything holding you back. If freedom is letting go, and the point of yoga is letting go, well I have to conclude that yoga = freedom!! Freedom in both body and mind.

This Freedom Flow focuses on finding space in your body by opening up the shoulders and hips. This class is full of movement and each time we flow, we add on a few poses. There is quite a bit of balance in this class as we work into eagle, half moon, airplane and standing big knee pose. At the end of the class we spend some time in pigeon pose and head to knee pose finding one last release for the hips.
